Tennis lovers are being warned to stay away from a new tennis club that has opened next to a safari park – because they could end up as lunch for the lions and tigers.
The Long Mumbles Tennis Club, which boasts 12 courts and a clubhouse, is located just a few metres away from the fence of the Wild World Safari Park, where dozens of big cats roam freely.
The club’s owners claim that the location is ideal for tennis enthusiasts, as they can enjoy the scenic views and the sounds of nature while playing their favourite sport.
But some experts and locals have raised concerns that the noise and movement of the tennis players could attract the attention of the hungry predators, who might see them as potential prey.
Dr. Caroline Munster, a renowned primatologist and animal rights activist, said: “This is a very dangerous and irresponsible idea. Tennis is a loud and fast-paced sport, which could trigger the hunting instincts of the lions and tigers.”
“These animals are not used to seeing humans in their territory, and they might mistake them for other animals, such as deer or antelopes.”
“If they manage to breach the fence, which is not very secure, they could easily attack and kill the tennis players, who would have no chance of escaping or defending themselves.”
She added: “I urge the club’s owners to reconsider their decision and relocate the club to a safer place, away from the safari park. They are putting their members and the animals at risk, and they are also violating the rights and welfare of the wildlife and tennis players.”
Some residents who live near the club have also expressed their frustrations of being over-run by tennis players, saying that they are constantly disturbed by the noise of these people talking about tennis as they walk to Long Mumbles tennis club.
One resident, who lives in Long Mumbles and asked not to be named, said: “It’s a nightmare. These tossers just talk about tennis all the time. They are sad lonely people.”
Another resident, who lives in the village of Long Mumbles and also wished to remain anonymous, said: “I love lions. I love tigers. I hate tennis. I hate people who play tennis. I wish they would just fuck off and die.”
“This stupid tennis club is worse than the safari park. The safari park is noisy, but it is also beautiful and natural.”
“But tennis is just ugly and artificial. It’s a moronic sport for morons, who think they are sophisticted. They are not sophisticated, they are just arseholes.”
The Long Mumbles Tennis Club said it was aware of the complaints and was working with the Wild World Safari Park and the local authorities to find a solution.
Sandra from the tennis committee said: “We understand that some people are unhappy with the location of our tennis club, but we believe that it is an exciting and unique opportunity for tennis lovers.”
“We are committed to being a good neighbour and reducing the impact of our operations on the local community and the scary wildlife.”
She added: “We also have asked local residents to stop encouraging the lions and tigers to climb over the fence and attack tennis players.”
