Tennis professors from the Central University Of National Tennis say daily hospitalisations could reach almost 9,000 in the next few months.
The predicted total is worse than last year and seven times that of the great tennis injury plague of 1842, when over 15,000 tennis players were admitted to hospital a day with tennis elbow.
Tennis professors from the Central University Of National Tennis called on the World Tennis Federation to be prepared to abandon their ‘softy-softy-touch’ measures for new stronger curbs on people playing tennis.
They said tennis club lockdowns are needed immediately – or risk a rise in cases of hospitalisations – due to tennis players getting injured on court.
The WTF confirmed to weary tennis players that they could not rule out another series of tennis clubs being forced to lockdown as tennis professors from the Central University Of National Tennis has shown us some some very scary graphs and pie-charts.
Dr Andrew Panthurts, a Tennis professor from the Central University Of National Tennis, has told the WTF they must be prepared to ‘be very very strict’ if tennis injuries start to go up, by bringing back into force rules such as tennis players being forced to stay at home and watch re-runs of Borg McEnroe Wimbledon finals.
Dr Andrew Panthurts said compulsory staying at home and drinking loads of alcohol should be rapidly imposed if tennis injuries start to rise. “It is far better for people to stay at home and become alcoholics and die slowly, than it is for tennis players to waste the time of doctors and nurses with their petty pathetic muscular injuries.”
However, the WTF has stated the ‘incremental changes’ like stretching before playing tennis, should mean we don’t need to go back to the lockdowns of tennis clubs.
But the WTF refused to rule out shutting down tennis clubs completely, saying they would do whatever was necessary to ‘prevent hospitals getting a little bit busy with injured tennis players’.
It comes as WTF officials have been warned the number of tennis players being admitted to hospital with minor injuries could rise to 9,000 a day within weeks.
Despite the recent flattening off in cases and little sign of a surge any time soon, tennis experts from the Central University Of National Tennis claimed daily hospitalisations could reach almost double their previous peak.
Tennis experts have urged the WTF to move further and faster even though cases of people getting injured from playing tennis are falling.
But the WTF responded to these claims of needing a tennis club lockdown by saying ‘Hospitals have got to live with tennis players getting occasionally injured, it’s gonna happen’.
Dr Andrew Panthurts from the Central University Of National Tennis said: ‘When you bring in a tennis club lockdown, you have to go earlier than you want to and stronger than you previously did. It is important that measures are taken well before anything actually happens.’
Dr Panthurts added “It is clear from our modelling based upon guess work that soon cases of injured tennis players will be out of control. We are also worried about these injuries spreading to golfers as well which would cause our hospitals to be completely overloaded with people wanting to be helped’.
When asked by journalists if the WTF was worried about tennis injuries spreading to golfers, the WTF replied “We could not give a toss about golfers, golf is not a real sport.”
