Every year tennis authorities around the world launch new campaigns to get more people to play tennis.
These campaigns waste millions of dollars and never result in any genuine long term increase in tennis participation anywhere in the world.
But for those of us who are die hard tennis players, we know why we love to play tennis week in week out. It’s not just the tennis – it’s all about the alcohol afterwards.
This fact has been known every since tennis was invented, but the tennis authorities don’t wish to acknowledge that tennis players love to have a drink after they have finished their game of tennis. All tennis players love to sit back, talk crap with their friends and have a good drink (or two).
So let’s stop wasting any more money on stupid campaigns trying to get people to play tennis because it is “cool” or “good for you”. People like to play tennis and people like to drink – slam the two together and you have a winning formula.
To prove this is true, the WTF interviewed everyone at the Rochester On Sea tennis club and asked them if they:
- just liked to play tennis
- loved to play tennis followed by a decent drink
93% of all tennis members said “they loved to play tennis and get boozed up afterwards”.
Dennis Campbell (mens team captain for Rochester On Sea tennis club said) – “most of our members know they are not going to get any better at tennis – but because they know they can have a good game of tennis then get drunk and have a laugh with their mates afterwards – that is why they love tennis”
WTF says Booze + tennis = fun fun fun!
