Answer – Hello Trinny, thank you for your question. To help answer your predicament the World Tennis Federation has conducted a global survey to find out if other tennis players tip their coach.
Playing tennis is known for its many facets, from getting fit, to meeting new people and of course getting drunk at the bar after your tennis game.
But if there is one thing that is synonymous with the world of tennis, it’s the tennis coach.
Tennis coaches are often described as the backbone of any tennis club, always there to help organise events and have that ‘cheeky smile’ when they see you walk in the club.
Although, tennis coaches are often dismissed for the high prices they teach for coaching, but most of their students fail to leave a tip.
New research by the World Tennis Federation has revealed that many people do tip their tennis coach, but by how much depends upon many different factors.
The findings show that only 11.31% of tennis players in the wealthy areas of London tip their tennis coach, whilst in the northern town of Barnsley it was the worst place for tipping with only 1.65% of people tipping their tennis coach.
This data from the World Tennis Federation comes as tennis coaches face a decline in income as the ‘coach of tennis crisis’ threatens their livelihood.
The World Tennis Federation recently found that the number of tennis coaches working has plunged by 27% since 2022, as many tennis coaches have found working in McDonalds is much more satisfying than putting up with the day to day crap at their local tennis club from moaning members.
The data also found that the average tip given to tennis coaches was 5% or just £2.77, and that tennis players were most likely to leave a tip in the morning, between 8am and midday.
Further data also showed that tennis players in the evening were the most ‘tight fisted’ and are the least likely to leave a tip, with the worst hours for tipping being between 7pm and 11pm.
